Sheep and shepherdess at Nazareth Village
Well, last week I blogged about To-Do List Craziness.
And apparently what happens when I let my to-do list get too crazy is: I get sick.
Sometimes I think the Lord lets me get sick just so I’ll slow down a bit. Does that ever happen to you?
Thankfully—one of the perks of working at a school—I’ve been on spring break this week. And so I’ve been able to rest my stuffed-up nose and yucky chest, and do a few of those things on my list…like taxes, and even a bit of writing. I’ve been able to watch Princess Diaries 2 with my sister, who is also on spring break, and finish that wonderful story by my critique partner, and do some needed research for my own book, which included reading this powerful true story.
And remember these words, somehow especially beautiful in the King James, though I usually use the New American Standard:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
~Psalm 23
Hopefully I’ll come back from Him “making me lie down in green pastures” for a little while with my soul more restored. 🙂
How about you? Has the Lord ever enforced rest upon you? What have you gotten out of it? Please comment and share!
